In 1966, a small group of local artists gathered with a shared dream—
to bring the visual arts to life in their growing city.
That dream became the Richardson Civic Art Society (RCAS), the first visual arts organization in Richardson, and
decades later, still its creative heartbeat. From humble beginnings, RCAS has flourished into a dynamic 501(c)(3) nonprofit
that celebrates creativity, supports artists of all levels, and enriches the cultural fabric of our community
through its all-volunteer membership. With support of the City of Richardson Cultural Arts Commission,
RCAS continues to inspire, educate, and connect through the visual arts—
hosting exhibitions, student showcases, artist demonstrations, and community outreach programs.
We are especially proud to honor one of our founders, Ted Houston, who helped establish RCAS in 1966, and continues to serve
as an active Board of Directors Volunteer today. In 2023, Ted and his wife, Caren, were recognized as the
organization’s very first Volunteers of the Year—a testament to their decades of dedication, creativity, and
community spirit that continue to inspire us all.
For nearly 60 years, RCAS has stood as a welcoming home for imagination, collaboration, and the joy of artistic discovery.
Join Us—be part of a community where art truly makes a difference.
