We are excited to announce that our Demo Artist will be Marian Hirsch!
Marian Hirsch — Exploring the Velvety Beauty of Gouache
Noted for its strength, opacity, and brilliance of color, gouache is a versatile water medium that has recently experienced a well-deserved resurgence. With more high-quality paints now widely available, artists are rediscovering its unique charm.
In her demonstration, Marian Hirsch showcases gouache “to full advantage,” revealing how this fine art medium’s velvety matte surface adapts beautifully to both luminous landscapes and intimate still lifes. Often called opaque watercolor, gouache offers a remarkable range—from transparent washes to solid, opaque tones. While more forgiving than traditional watercolor, it still rewards a thoughtful and deliberate touch. Its quick-drying quality makes it ideal for capturing fleeting light in plein air studies or for larger, more developed studio works.
A full-time professional artist, Marian moves seamlessly between multiple mediums. She is a Signature Member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, the Pastel Society of the Southwest, the Pastel Society of America, Texas and Neighbors, and Associated Creative Artists. Her paintings grace numerous corporate art collections and have been featured in respected art magazines and books.
An avid plein air painter, Marian can often be found in the open fields, capturing the poetry of light and landscape with a masterful touch.
