The 50th Anniversary Year will again have monthly live demonstrators, demonstrating various media and techniques. Our next regular meeting will be Tuesday, September 15th. The September artist will be Priscilla Krejci, demonstrating Mixed Media.

Priscilla Krejci, originally from Long Island, New York, has lived in Texas for last 30 years and resides in Allen. She pursued a career as a registered nurse and kept artistic endeavors secondary until painting consumed more and more of her time.

Her work is mainly impressionistic and includes a variety of subject matter influenced by travels at home and abroad, everyday life in Texas, and her experiences in nursing.

Priscilla is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Southwestern Watercolor Society, and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. Her work has been selected in regional, national, and international shows, including Rocky Mountain Watermedia Exhibition, American Watercolor Society, International Watercolor Exhibition - Nigata, Japan, Watercolor USA and Watercolor Without Boundaries Texas-Italy and local Texas exhibitions.

Her work has been included in the books; Best of Watercolor - Painting Composition, Best of Watercolor - Painting Light and Shadow, and People in Watercolor, and the 2001 and 2004 summer issue of "International Artist".

Heights Recreation Center

The current Solo Exhibit  at the Heights Recreation Center at 711 W. Arapaho Road in Richardson is showcasing Ted Houston's work.

Ted Houston is an artist working in several media including oil painting, water color, drawing, and printmaking.  Ted started his study of life drawing at the Philadelphia Academy of Art while earning his PhD in Physics at the University of Pennsylvania.  On moving to Dallas, he continued his study of life drawing with Roger Winters, and later with Bill Comodor.  Ted has also studied painting and printmaking at Brookhaven College for the Arts.  His work has won many awards including several best of shows, and has been exhibited in juried shows with the Dallas Business Council for the Arts, the Richardson Civic Art Society, Irving Art Society, and at the Brookhaven studio gallery.  Ted has also exhibited at Studio 8 in Dallas.  For a while, Ted taught drawing at Ole Podrida.    Much of Ted’s work is noted for capturing an emotion while also providing interest and beauty to the eye.

For this show, Ted selected work primarily focused on youth sports, including coaches and parents/spectators.  Many aspects of human interaction can be found in this genre.

We have several Art Shows each season.

It all starts with our Membership Show in the Fall. Those members wanting to display their 2D work and compete for prizes are eligible to enter. Paintings hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery of the Richardson Public Library. A judge will select winning entries and awards which are handed out at the monthly meeting. The prospectus explains rules and guidelines for hanging. Most work is for sale and is a great opportunity to purchase local art.

In the Winter, our Young People’s Scholarship Show hangs in the 3rd Floor Gallery with representation from our talented Richardson high school students competing for cash awards.

Following the Young People’s Show is the Rosemary Cheney Memorial Art Show. This showcases the RISD Elementary students. Forty-one schools send their best art to be displayed in the Library’s 3rd Floor Gallery, with the show traveling to the RISD Professional Building for more viewing by the public.

The 50+ Show in the Spring gives “seasoned” artists a chance to display and compete for prize money and awards. This show is open to any 2D artists in the surrounding communities who are also over age 50. Sales of the artwork are encouraged. This is a great venue to purchase art pieces locally. The monthly meeting after the show hangs will present awards and prizes chosen by our judge. See the prospectus for rules and guidelines.

Our premier show is the Regional Juried Art Exhibition which is displayed at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. This juried show is open to qualified amateur and professional Texas artists. Prize awards totaling over $6900.00 in cash and merchandise are presented at a reception honoring entrants and their families and friends. Refreshments and music are part of the festivities. Sales of the artwork are encouraged by patrons.

Our final show is a casual display of any artwork that members wish to hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery during the summer months. We call this our Simply Summer Show and Sale.

See below for details about any of our shows. To see photos from previous shows, go to the Archives page.
