MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

Our next meeting and demonstration will be May 21, 2013 at the Richardson Public Library Basement Meeting Room. The demo will be an oil demonstration by Andrew Wages..

New Mexico Church

Andrew grew up in southern Oklahoma and later moved to Texas where he developed an interest in art. He later attended the Art Center College of Design, graduating with honors.

He was then off to New York City to apprentice as an illustrator to one of the commercial art studios. He was drafted by the army and served as an illustrator in Fourth Army Recruiting. He then worked as a freelance illustrator in Dallas for thirty-five years.

But for the past fifteen years, Andrew has followed his dream and has been painting landscapes, still lifes, portraits and figurative works.

We have several Art Shows each season.

It all starts with our Membership Show in the Fall. Those members wanting to display their 2D work and compete for prizes are eligible to enter. Paintings hang in the 2nd Floor Gallery of the Richardson Public Library. A judge will select winning entries and awards which are handed out at the monthly meeting. The prospectus explains rules and guidelines for hanging. Most work is for sale and is a great opportunity to purchase local art.

In the Winter, our Young People’s Scholarship Show hangs in the 2nd Floor Gallery with representation from our talented Richardson high school students competing for cash awards.

Following the Young People’s Show is the Rosemary Cheney Memorial Art Show. This showcases the RISD Elementary students. Forty-one schools send their best art to be displayed in the Library’s 2nd Floor Gallery, with the show traveling to the RISD Professional Building for more viewing by the public.

The 50+ Show in the Spring gives “seasoned” artists a chance to display and compete for prize money and awards. This show is open to any 2D artists in the surrounding communities who are also over age 50. Sales of the artwork are encouraged. This is a great venue to purchase art pieces locally. The monthly meeting after the show hangs will present awards and prizes chosen by our judge. See the prospectus for rules and guidelines.

Our premier show is the Regional Juried Art Exhibition which is displayed at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. This juried show is open to qualified amateur and professional Texas artists. Prize awards totaling over $6900.00 in cash and merchandise are presented at a reception honoring entrants and their families and friends. Refreshments and music are part of the festivities. Sales of the artwork are encouraged by patrons.

Our final show is a casual display of any artwork that members wish to hang in the 2nd Floor Gallery during the summer months. We call this our Simply Summer Show and Sale.

See below for details about any of our shows. To see photos from previous shows, go to the Archives page.
