MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

Richardson Civic Art Society meets the third Tuesday of each month. Each month we have various artists demos. Our next regular meeting is November 18th. Our demo artist for November is Tina Bohlman who will demonstrate her plein air watercolor techniques.

Tina says :“I’ve been an artist all my life. Drawing with pencil and crayon as a child, I don't remember learning the skill....the ability has just always been there."

A Texas native, Tina Bohlman has used the state in which she was raised as both the inspiration and the canvas for her art. Mostly a self-taught artist, Bohlman works primarily in watercolor and occasionally in oil to create her breathtaking plein air paintings and brilliant rural landscapes. She cultivated her natural artistic talent and her eye for beauty with great dedication and an insatiable desire to learn the techniques and history of the art. Bohlman has supplemented her independent study with workshops with some of the best artists in the field, including Jan Kuntz, Tom Lynch, Irving Shapiro and Jill Carver.

This has served her well because as she describes, watercolor is a challenging medium. A veteran of numerous competition plein air and “quick draw” events annually, including, Plein Air Southwest–Outdoor Painters Society, Sedona Plein Air Festival-Sedona, Arizona, and Paint The Parks-Estes Park, Colorado, she prefers plein air rather than working in the studio.

MEETINGS AND DEMONSTRATIONS

Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month - from September to May - in the Richardson Public Library basement meeting room. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

The business meeting is followed by a demo artist in any of several media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, and mixed media.

We also have Painting-of-the-Month available to members, which is voted on by peers at 6:30p.m., at the start of the meeting. Cash and awards are given out to winners. Show and Share, also at this time, is a display of any 3-d work by members.

Come early and participate in our Critique Corner at 6:00. Visitors are always encouraged to join us.
