Our guest demonstration artist was Tom Hands. Tom is a Midwestern transplant that spent the bulk of his years in this area. With an early inherited interest in art from his mother, he has always enjoyed the expressive nature of painting and drawing.

He received a degree in the Humanities from SMU in 1969. Over the next forty years, he pursued his art interest through courses in 2D art at various Dallas Community Colleges that accounted for thirty hours of college credit.

With this background, he was afforded the opportunity to teach 2D Art at the Winston School of Dallas for twelve years.

Since his retirement in 2010, he garnered various awards at the Rockwall Art League, before entering successful association with the Wylie Art Gallery for the last nine years, where he is always a top seller and is a valued workshop instructor. His demonstration last night began with basic drawing concepts and progressed through an understanding of shapes and values, aided by the use of graphs and color-mixing to achieve the artists' desired forms.

As usual, we had our Painting of the Month competition, which was won by the following artists: 1st Place, Sheliah Lonian for "Nature’s Blessings"; 2nd Place, Alfred Graham for "Reflections; and 3rd Place, Ted Houston for "Ed".
