Biography

Heidi was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico of a Swiss father and a NYC mother! Her parents met in Shaghai; her mother was a Commercial Attaché for the American Foreign Service and her father was in the import/export business; coffee, tea, cocoa, and cotton which afforded the family opportunity for extensive travel.

Heidi received her Bachelors of Art, Sociology at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1975 including a year of study in France at Rouen University. Heidi’s summers and one month each winter were spent in Switzerland where her parents had moved. Her intense interest in the arts manifested in study toward her MFA with Trinity University’s theater production program at Dallas Theatre Center, Dallas, Texas.

Oil painting became an important part of Heidi’s life and once again she was able to explore more of the world living in Sandnes, Norway; a beautiful landscape which further inspired her love of art. Heidi speaks English, Spanish and French.

Returning to Dallas in 1998, Heidi continued to pursue her interest in art and is now creating in her home studio and at The Bonny Studio, with Bonny Leibowitz. Heidi’s work has shown at The Bonny Studio’s annual member’s show; “In The Studio” ‘07,‘08 and '09.

She has also displayed her art at Palmer House Gallery in Arlington, RCAS Artists' Shows 2009 and Decor Art & Frames in 2009.

Artist Statement

The joy of painting and the natural free flowing thoughts and feelings which emerge as I create, are my artistic calling. The expression of self through oils, especially integrating blue, yes, the color blue, is of paramount importance to me.

Perhaps my years of travel, having lived in many countries, allows me the confidence to know all will be okay through change and evolution. There is a certainty that although outcomes are never completely predictable, the essence of the self will shine through.  Developing layers and color as the piece progresses; I respond to the needs of the image; balance, composition, color and line.

I find inspiration everywhere including photography, the great outdoors and the free form shapes in nature and life as it unfolds. For me a painting has come to fruition as every area satisfies!
